Fin & Claw's lease on its new South Bethany dining room starts on November 1. That's eight days after the last costume parade of the year goes down Garfield Parkway, and well after most summer visitors have packed up.
The timing tells you something. In 2026, the restaurant changes that will shape eating out around Bethany Beach are happening in the quiet months. A seafood market is adding tables. A barbecue spot is putting its business on wheels. A Garfield Parkway restaurant that opened this spring is heading into its first winter. Each of these moves is aimed at the stretch of the year when the customers are mostly the people who live here.
The off-season is the longer season
It's easy to think of summer as the main event and everything after Labor Day as a slowdown. The calendar doesn't back that up. Bethany Blues, at 6 North Pennsylvania Avenue, runs its off-season specials from September 14 through May 14. That's eight months of off-season pricing, compared with roughly four months of peak season.
Its posted hours fit that kind of year. Dine-in and carryout run Monday through Thursday from 4 to 9 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Off the Hook's website also says its off-season specials are back, with hours listed as 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m., seven days a week. Sedona is promoting private holiday events from November through February. That shows the restaurant expects winter business, though it doesn't tell you what its regular public hours will be.
For a wider view, Visit Rehoboth puts out a 2026–27 seasonal specials guide that covers Bethany, Ocean View and nearby beach towns. It was last updated September 21, 2026, and the guide itself tells diners to confirm details directly with each restaurant before going. That's good advice for every listing in this post, since off-season hours tend to change as the weeks go on.
Fin & Claw One Block Back: a takeout counter grows a dining room
Fin & Claw Seafood & Provisions is at 42-A Atlantic Avenue in Ocean View, where it is takeout only today. Owners Scott and Anne Viselli are opening a second location called Fin & Claw One Block Back at 34444 Coastal Highway in South Bethany. Rosenfeld's Jewish Deli has been in that space and is consolidating down to its Rehoboth location.
Coastal Point reported the move on September 3, 2026. Here's the timeline the owners laid out:
- Mid-September: Rosenfeld's stays in the space until then.
- November 1: The Visellis' lease begins.
- Before year-end: The opening they hope for, after they take occupancy and pass health department inspections.
Scott Viselli told Coastal Point he wasn't sure of an exact opening date. So for now, a December opening is a goal, not something you can put on the calendar. A Visit Rehoboth newsletter published September 11 described the plan as counter service plus full service, and it didn't give a new date either.
The plans themselves are what matter for winter dining. The owners describe "tripling our size," adding seating and one or two servers, and serving both lunch and dinner. They also plan to apply for a liquor license. The list includes an oyster counter and, they hope, a raw bar and a bar. They also want more market items, more butchery like steaks and possibly pork, and a few deli meats.
Longtime locals will recognize one detail. The space was once McCabe's Gourmet Market, and Viselli said, "We do want to get back to the McCabe's vibe." That includes bringing back McCabe's chicken salad, along with pickled peaches, pickled green beans and more desserts. He said he wants a "corner store kind of vibe," with wine and platters to grab on the way to a friend's house and a couple of couches for sitting. Their son Nick has joined the business and is making desserts, including a cookie cup built on his great-grandmother's sugar cookie recipe.
A housewarming-gift counter with couches, opening in December, isn't designed for beach traffic. It's built for people who are still around when it gets cold.
Charlie K's goes mobile
A few miles inland, the barbecue map is changing the other way. Charlie K's has been on Atlantic Avenue in Ocean View since 2010, and the site was Bootsie's Barbecue before that. The restaurant is leaving that location and switching to a concession trailer.
Owner Josh Ricci told Coastal Point the restaurant would probably close in early October, before its lease ends in late December. He said Charlie K's will reopen in the spring and added, "we are definitely not going out of business." He described a trailer that will stay local, not a food truck, and said the move had been planned for a couple of years and should help the business grow.
As of that report, no trailer locations had been announced. If you're a regular, plan on a winter break from Charlie K's barbecue and watch for spring stops. Fin & Claw is using the off-season to get bigger. Charlie K's is using the same months to reset.
Claws Seafood House faces its first winter
Downtown, Claws Seafood House at 210 Garfield Parkway had a soft opening on April 2, 2026, according to the Cape Gazette. That means this is its first off-season. Its website doesn't list a winter schedule yet. Check before you head over on a weeknight in November.
The Bethany-Fenwick Area Chamber of Commerce's January roundup of what's new in southern Delaware for 2026 also includes Ocean 99 in Bethany. Its winter hours weren't posted when this was written, either.
Garfield Parkway keeps a calendar
Some downtown spots are filling October with special events. Harvest Tide at 98 Garfield Parkway lists dinner Tuesday through Saturday from 4 to 9 p.m. It has an Old Forester whiskey dinner on Friday, October 16, and a Paso Robles wine dinner on Friday, October 23, both at 6:30 p.m. It is also taking bookings for a Thanksgiving buffet on Thursday, November 26, with seatings from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. At the same address, the Chamber calendar lists an Oktoberfest tap takeover at ZOCA on Wednesday, October 7.
The year's biggest downtown gathering after summer is Wags, Witches & Warlocks on Saturday, October 24, with a rain date of Sunday, October 25. Coastal Point lists the schedule this way:
- 8 a.m.: Puppy Yoga at St. Martha's Episcopal Church, 117 Maplewood Street. Preregistration is required, and you'll need to bring a mat.
- 9 a.m.: Parade registration in the PNC Bank parking lot.
- 10 a.m.: Costume parade along Garfield Parkway.
- 10:45 a.m.: Costume awards.
- 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.: Trick-or-treating and Halloween activities downtown.
- Noon: Puppy Pals Live in Bethany Beach Central Park, part of the Town's 2026 Seaside Concert Series.
The event benefits the Brandywine Valley SPCA. The Chamber's event page shows different times than Coastal Point, so go by the detailed schedule above.
In December, South Bethany's Community Relations Committee hosts its 5th Annual Holiday Tree Lighting on Saturday, December 5, at the Town Hall Fitness Park, 402 Evergreen Road. It's listed for 5 p.m., with live music, snacks and donations collected for a food pantry. The town says it will confirm the start time closer to the date.

A few things were left out on purpose. The Town of Bethany Beach's Holiday Happenings page wasn't showing its 2026 details when this was written. The Bethany Beach Farmers' Market ran on Sundays from May 31 through September 6 this year, and no fall schedule has been posted.
This fall, the answer to what's open in the off-season is still taking shape. If you're weighing more winter time at the beach, or a home near Garfield Parkway or along Coastal Highway, Kate A Barnhart is happy to talk through what living here from November to May really looks like. Let's Connect.
